Building equitable relationships in the Latin classroom

In part one of his series on building equitable relationships, John Bracey talks about ‘keeping it real’ in the classroom – being your authentic self in order to build trust and connections with your students.

In part two, John talks about how being your students’ biggest fan helps all students feel comfortable, seen and included in your Latin classroom.

In part three, John discusses earning your students’ trust, and how this is particularly important for learners from marginalized backgrounds.

John Bracey has been a Latin teacher in Massachusetts since 2010. He has a B.A. in Classics from UMass Amherst and an M.A. from Boston College. He has taught Latin exclusively using Comprehensible Input for the past few years. John leads workshops around the country for language teachers of all kinds. He is also the 2016 Massachusetts Latin teacher of the year. Follow John on Twitter @MagisterBracey
