Key features and tools of Cambridge Online Maths

This webinar provided an overview of the key functions and tools that teachers can use to enhance digital learning. Our guest speaker, Siti Zaleha, IBDP and Cambridge IGCSE™ Mathematics teacher in Malaysia, has almost 13 years of experience in teaching maths and is currently teaching Cambridge IGCSE™ and IB Diploma Mathematics at Nexus International School, Malaysia. She is also a Cambridge Trainer and Examiner and has been shortlisted for the 2023 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards.

In her presentation above, Siti shared tips on how to make the most of Cambridge Online Mathematics for an exciting learning experience. David Hickinson, Product Manager for Cambridge GO, showed a walkthrough of the key functions of Cambridge Online Mathematics, such as task management and scorcher tests.

During the webinar, we received several questions from the audience. We have now collated these into a helpful Q&A summary.

Questions from live Q&A

Q: I’m aware that teachers can create tests in the teacher’s resource, but is it only online or hard copy? Can we print the test out in the form of worksheets?

A: You can print the tests out, along with the answer key.

Q: Please provide some guidance regarding designing a standard test based on a table of specifications. Question types such as knowledge, applying and reasoning.

A: These are not exam-style or graded questions but rather practice questions at an increasing range of difficulty. As such, we haven’t levelled them against any assessment objectives in the syllabus, but they are designed as an opportunity for formative assessment so that you can see the level of your learners’ understanding.

Q: How many questions are there in total? In the three stages of Lower Secondary, IGCSE and A Level, how many questions are there in each, and how many questions are there on average in each unit?

A: For Lower Secondary and Cambridge IGCSE™, there are around 32 quiz questions per subtopic of the book. Each Lower Secondary stage totals around 2,000 questions per stage, and Cambridge IGCSE™ has 4,500 quiz questions.

Q: Does this come with any cost to the learner or the teacher?

A: Access to Cambridge Online Mathematics is done via access codes in the book bundle. It is a choice by schools to buy either the print only with no access or the bundled book at an extra price.

Q: Does the source of these questions include the real questions of the Cambridge IGCSE™ / Cambridge International AS & A Level exam? Are there practice questions?

A: The book exercise questions contain cross-topic review questions at the Cambridge IGCSE™ Level, including practice questions. But the quiz questions are not exam-style questions.

Q: Is there a plan to add the test function in the Cambridge International AS & A Level stage? Will it add the function that the teachers can create their own questions?

A: Not currently.

Q: When will the new maths books become available?

A: It will be available upon publication of the coursebooks. It is estimated as end of April 2023 for Core and Extended and May 2023 for Additional Mathematics.

Q: Can I register my online teaching platform, where I’ll do online teaching to groups of students (classes), but it is not a typical school?

A: Yes, this is fine. You should contact customer services when creating your teacher account so that we can create a non-typical school.

Q: We want our teachers and students to go paperless. How can we buy online codes for students?

A: Please contact [email protected] or your regional sales rep, and they will be able to give you the details.

Q: Are any resources, such as mathematics books, available to improve my qualifications as a mathematics teacher?

A: We have some teacher-focused books for Primary Maths (Primary Mathematics Journeybook) and Cambridge IGCSE level – Teaching Statistics and Teaching Probability.

Q: What are the requirements to become a Cambridge school?

A: Please get in touch with your regional Cambridge team.
